RE: Alert on Possible Scam
I received a call today from a local resident who reported she was contacted by phone about her new social security card being sent out. The caller had the woman’s name and address but wanted to confirm her banking information and social security number in order to send her the new social security card. The woman correctly declined to provide any information. Remember the Social Security Administration already has your social security number. They would also have your bank information if you are getting direct deposit. Do not give out your social security number or banking information to anyone that contacts you by phone, mail or on internet unless you have confirmed that they are legitimate. If you need help confirming the legitimacy of anyone asking for this information please contact the LPD and also refer them to me at (508) 892-7010 ext. # 2010 prior to giving them any information. We will investigate the calling agency for you.
Have a good week.
