The Leicester Police
Department (LPD) has been notified by the Bureau of Justice
Assistance (BJA) that it is eligible to receive $13,054 in
grant funding as part of the American Recovery Act. As
part of the application process the Leicester Police
Department is required to make its grant application
available for public inspection and to solicit public
input.
The Leicester Police
Department has prepared its application and designated that
the funding available from BJA will be put towards the
retention of personnel. The grant funding, when received,
will be placed directly into the Leicester Police
Department’s salary account to assist in preventing
layoffs. This is one of the approved spending categories
under the Recovery Act.
A copy of the grant
application is available for public inspection at the Office
of the Board of Selectmen, located in the town hall at 3
Washburn Square, Leicester, MA. Members of the community
can e-mail their input to Chief Jim Hurley at
hurleyj@leicesterma.org or contact Chief Hurley by phone
at (508) 892-7010 ext. #2010. Residents may also forward
their comments to the chief through the Board of Selectmen
and/or the Town Administrator.
